Adjustment Layers

What is a adjustment layer?
An adjustment layer applies color and tonal adjustments to your image without permanently changing pixel values. For example, rather than making a Levels or Curves adjustment directly to your image, you can create a Levels or Curves adjustment layer. The color and tonal adjustments are stored in the adjustment layer and apply to all the layers below it, you can correct multiple layers by making a single adjustment, rather than adjusting each layer separately. You can discard your changes and restore the original image at any time.

Light Meter

This is what a light meter looks like. When the little line is under the 0 that shows you that the picture is correctly exposed. When the little line is below 0 that means that the photo is under exposed. When the little line is over 0 that means that the photo is over exposed.

Research

Degas

I like this work because you can tell he uses photographs as his inspiration, you can see because it is a lot more natural. You can see that the images have half legs in, you can also see that the image with the two girls in that he has used a bit of a angel on it. Another reason how you can tell this artist has used photographs is the composition of the photographs, because in a normal painting in that time they would fill the space and not bunch everything together. But as you can see in the artwork that all the people are bunched together at one side of the photo, especially in the photo of the girl practising and the rest of the girls getting ready. In that specific painting you can see that it is more life like by the fact it looks like they're getting ready for a audition. All of these pieces of artwork tell more of a story then they would if it wasn't done lifelike and the people where posing. You know that this artist has used a photo or taken the photo because he has a lot of detail in them and you wouldn't be able to put that much detail in just from memory or decide where all the people are and how they are placed. Painter and sculptor Edgar Degas was a highly celebrated 19th century french impressionist whose work helped shape the fine art landscape for years to come.

                                               Early kodak photographs
In these photos they didn't mean to crop the photos or do them on different angels. they did it by accident then the professionals saw this and thought they could work with stuff like that and produce good photos. I think that they may have cropped the photo on the left to give the idea that he is in thought. I think they have tilted the photo below to give the impression that she is standing up straight.

Book Annotations

Cecil Beaton
I like the way that Cecil Beaton has used black and white in these photographs. I like how old they look and i do really think the black and white helps with that effect. I do like the way that he has taken the photo on a slight angle of Audrey Hepburn because it isn't straight in front of her, it also makes you think what is happening because you dont know what she is about to do or achieve. I also like the photo of Marilyn Monroe because its the kind of photo that you feel like you're there i think this is created by making the model look directly into the camera.
